The Crankshaw memorial display, finished headstones standing under trees

We will help you get this right.

Tombstones and memorials, designed and installed with care. Supporting families across South Africa for over 60 years.

Four decisions, and a date.

That is all it comes down to, and it is usually less than families expect. We take them in order, at whatever pace suits you, and nothing is ordered until you have the quote in writing.

  1. The design The shape and size of the memorial.
  2. The stone Colour and finish.
  3. The lettering Names, dates and wording.
  4. The date We work back from the unveiling.
What shapes the quote?
Stone, size, lettering, design detail and what the cemetery requires.
Is there any obligation?
None. We quote in writing and nothing is ordered until you say so.
How far do you travel?
Nationwide. Our work reaches remote places, run from three branches.

Find a design to begin with.

Choose something close to what you have in mind. Most designs can be adjusted in size, stone and detail once we talk.

We offer headstones and bases, full single and double designs, and ash markers. Ask us about palisade fencing, sandstone and face brick surrounds.

Or describe what you have in mind and we will send suggestions.

Stone chosen for the years ahead.

Granite is the standard recommendation for an outdoor memorial. We will explain colour, finish and care before you decide, and show you how each one takes lettering, because a pale inscription on a pale stone reads very differently at a distance.

Marble and cladding can be discussed for particular designs.

Popular extras.

Finishing details to consider alongside your memorial. We will help you choose what suits the design and confirm the cemetery requirements before quoting.

Every word, carefully considered.

Names, dates and wording are checked with you before lettering begins. We take the time to get the details right.

  • Confirmed in writing, before anything is cut

Names, dates, spelling and wording are set out and checked with you first. We would rather ask twice than leave any uncertainty.

  • Finished in our own factory

A correction caught before the day is a conversation with the person doing the work, not a new stone and a new wait.

  • Room for the names that come later

Names can be added to a memorial years afterwards. If a family plot is likely, tell us at the start and we will lay the inscription out to leave space for it.

We work back from the day.

Tell us the unveiling date at the first conversation and we plan the schedule backwards from it. If the date is tight we will say so honestly rather than promise and miss it. If there is no date yet, that is fine. Many families start the conversation long before they set one.

  1. Talk with us

Send us a photograph, a sketch, a catalogue code or the questions you would like us to answer.

  2. Choose the design and stone

We talk through the forms and materials at whatever pace suits you.

  3. Confirm the lettering and the quote

Names, dates and wording are set out and checked with you before anything is cut.

  4. We make and install it

Designed and finished in our own factory, then installed at the cemetery.

  5. Ready for the unveiling

We work to the date you gave us and keep you updated as it comes closer.

Still here for the unveiling, and after it.

Crankshaw has been making memorials for over 60 years and the workshop is still in the family. That matters for one practical reason.

The people who take your call are the people who cut, letter and install the stone. They will be there for the unveiling, and still here years from now if the memorial needs additional lettering or care.
